Parity or Parody?

Everyone is talking about the Canadian dollar reaching parity with its US counterpart.
Wat exacly does this mean u might wonder? Cheaper prices north of the border perhaps? An increase in consumer satisfaction? Soaring sales of previously overpriced electronic equipment? well...not really.

Despite having reached parity - the Canadian dollar is still well...friggin Canadian. Hopefully stores will catch onto the craze that is the free market and lower prices before we all move south of the border to do our weekend shopping. However good news is just on the horizon - as yahoo! - being the market leader in all things...markety. Decided to lower the prices on many of their online games out there. Yes - u heard it here first folks - online gaming prices have plummeted. By how much u dare ask? Well just take a look at this lovely detailed picture Mash sent me not very long ago...

...ahem - yes i know what your thinking.

WTF (fudge)

A game that USED to cost 20 bucks is now an affordable 19.99 - giving more credence to the age-old cliche: "a penny saved is a penny earned." So wat does this mean for online gaming aficionados? Well it means yahoo is finding new and innovative ways to screw over potential customers while alienating those who would actually pay for an online game (i mean seriously...who buys stuff anymore?? 5 finger discounts are all the craze these days).

One can argue that yahoo is in reality quite business savvy - and by playing psychological mind games with their customers they are doing just that - showing everyone how playful they can really be. Those conniving little sons of biscuits.....they sure know how to play the corporate game of life....no wonder they've got their very own search engine...

Anywho - thats my two cents worth - if it can even be considered two cents - seeing as how i've only saved about a penny by buying Family Fued (i mean come on...pass up on a sale?? i think not...) - so i guess it's really just my penny's worth now....

  3. Well, after reading that, I believe I've lost a couple of minutes of my life!!!! If you convert that, it's approximately 5 cents (EVERY minute in my life is valuable...DUH!!!) Thus, I believe I should be reimbursed for the money I have lost!!!! With the extra money I receive, I shall pay it back to you guys, and thus you'll FINALLY be able to make all of that "money" you guys have dreamed about (at least be en route to rolling in the dough). As that British guy from the ING commercials would say (who IS that guy anyway???), "Save your money!" Yes, he was QUITE wise for his time...then they replaced him with someone else who NEVER suggested saving money. Sigh. I guess saving money is just not the trend these days...it's spend and spend, until you can't spend any more!!!!

  4. AB, I ask for your expertly novice opinion. Do you think this plummet in gaming price will have a subsequent effect on the new Halo? In addition, would it further be transferable towards the purchase of a PS3?

My own thoughts regarding the matter pretty much start and end with my regret for having used Paint to facilitate the communication. I should have sent an untouched picture to AB, and his photoshop skills would have done the injustice of "Yahoo offering us all a penny" justice.

As for the ING guy, I honestly found he had a hardcore British accent before, but find that in more recent advertisements, he has somewhat of a more Polish, German, Austrian drawl.

    Maybe it's just me.

  5. You're right Mashkur! I HAVE noticed a decrease in his accent. However, I cannot place his newly formed accent. I think perhaps that he's become SO Americanized, he is now starting to incorporate their manner of speaking. Sooner or later, he will start using American lingo, and thus will complete his regeneration as an American citizen!!!! All I can say on this, is that I will miss Mr. Ing Direct man, and his quite attractive British accent!!!

  6. To answer ur question mashkur - i am hoping that this trend continues and Microsoft catches onto this new fad that yahoo has started...perhaps we will be lucky enough to see Halo 3 prices drop radically from their amazon.com price of $59.99 to something a bit more affordable - perhaps 59.98...

In terms of having your savings transfer over to a PS3 - i wouldn't bother even trying - wat with their delayed venture into the gaming market - the PS3 is suffering from a disease that can be best classified as "procrastination"...i mean we gamers are notorious for our procrastinating ways - but delaying a release of a gaming system?? Thats just blasphemy...
